There are plenty of places to enjoy snow tubing and sledding in Washington's Playground.  From a downhill tubing track complete with a rope tow, to gentler slopes for the little ones surrounded by festive Christmas Lights in the center of the Bavarian-themed town of Leavenworth, nothing feels more like winter than sliding down a hill on snow with your family and friends. 

Stand-Up Paddleboarding

Stand-Up Paddleboarding ( LEAVENWORTH, LAKE CHELAN, WENATCHEE, CASHMERE ) – Have you tried the newest activity to hit the water-sport world?  Stand-Up Paddleboarding, or SUP for short, consists of riding an oversized surfboard and using an extra long paddle to navigate.  Washington's Playground offers Stand-Up Paddleboarding opportunities from calm lakes, to easy-flowing rivers, to whitewater surfing waves.  There are multiple outfitters that rent and sell equipment, offer lessons, and provide guided tours to fit every skill level. It’s a great way to get some exercise while enjoying our rivers and lakes on those hot summer days.

Downhill Skiing/Snowboarding

Downhill Skiing/Snowboarding ( LEAVENWORTH, LAKE CHELAN, WENATCHEE )  – Welcome to your home-base for downhill skiing and snowboarding in North Central Washington State. Within a mile of downtown Leavenworth is Ski Hill, a historic small town ski area run by the Leavenworth Winter Sports Club. It offers fun for all ages and ability levels with a family friendly atmosphere. Ski Hill features two rope tows, a terrain park, and a very thrilling downhill snow tubing track. If you’re looking for more terrain and a full mountain resort experience, you’re in luck! Mission Ridge is located a short drive from Wenatchee. The Ridge’s 2,000 acres of sunny Central Washington dry snow has been a Wenatchee favorite for generations. With spectacular views of town and the Columbia River, the Ridge is the place to be on a sunny powder day! Stevens Pass, located 32 miles west of Leavenworth is well known for its laid back vibe and friendly atmosphere. What really keeps powder hounds happy though is snow, lots of snow and the pass delivers! Steeps, trees and glades abound, as well as a terrain park for the more daring.




Fishing ( LEAVENWORTH, LAKE CHELAN, WENATCHEE, CASHMERE )  – Cast away your burdens and enjoy amazing fishing in crystal clear snow-fed rivers and streams, or on expansive glacially-carved lakes. Fishing in Washington’s Playground means salmon and trout and fishermen from all over play in our waters for these amazing fish. Want to try your hand at ice fishing? Head on over to Fish Lake starting in the winter months and usually lasting through April. Check with the Department of Fish and Wildlife for information on permits and open seasons.

Geocaching ( LEAVENWORTH, LAKE CHELAN, WENATCHEE, CASHMERE ) – Geocaching takes the old-fashioned scavenger hunt into the digital realm.  The hunt is on in this vast expanse that ranges from alpine wilderness to arid desert plateaus. Stroll through historic downtown streets and back alleys, and explore riverside paths and steep mountain trails.  Can you find the hidden treasures? Once you’re here, they’re all around!

Horseback Riding

Kayaking ( LEAVENWORTH, LAKE CHELAN, WENATCHEE, CASHMERE ) – World-class whitewater is one of the many reasons, skilled adventurers and water enthusiasts flock to this area.  The rivers around Leavenworth and Cashmere offer a plethora of opportunities for easy-to-access play-boating and kayak surfing on a world famous stretch of Class III whitewater.  With an average of over 300 days of sunshine a year, you’re chances are good for enjoying great weather, water, and amazing views of the Cascade Mountains. Looking for narrow technical lines, drops, and heart-pounding thrills, the infamous Tumwater Canyon and Icicle Rivers offer Class IV & V sections that are sure to test even the most-skilled of kayakers. Or, enjoy a quiet sunset kayak on one of many of the area’s lakes or the Columbia River. Lake Chelan is Washington’s watersports capitol, but there’s still plenty of solitude for those willing to explore the upper part of the lake. In addition, numerous other rivers and lakes offer a wide range of kayaking options no matter your level of ability and experience.


Miniature Golfing

Mountain Biking

Mountain Biking (LEAVENWORTH, LAKE CHELAN, WENATCHEE, CASHMERE ) – This area has been called a ‘Mountain Biking Mecca’ and it’s no wonder!  Careen down a mountain side, or trek through alpine meadows and wilderness, all while breathing in that fresh mountain air and enjoying the majestic views offered by the North Cascade Mountains and surrounding ridgelines.  Bring your own pedal-driven power, or rent one tuned just for the type of trip you’re planning.  Not all trails allow two wheeled users, check in with the USFS for all the latest information as well as a bike specific trail map.


Nordic Skiing

Nordic Skiing (LEAVENWORTH, LAKE CHELAN) – Join the thousands of Nordic enthusiasts, not to mention US Olympians, who flock to this amazing area to swish their way through beautiful country on one of several networks of Nordic skiing trails.  No matter your level of ability, Washington’s Playground has the perfect trails for you.  Leavenworth alone has over 26km of groomed skate and classic trails, some even lit at night to take your Nordic skiing experience to a whole new level!  Join a group tour, or set out on your own.  Don’t have your own skis?  No problem!  Get expert advice and rental equipment at a number of local outfitters. Lake Chelan’s Echo Ridge Nordic area is perched high above the valley floor, with views that stretch for miles. The area's dry climate can sometimes mean that Echo opens a little later than other areas, but when condition permit, Echo Ridge is a wonderful place to ski! Parasailing ( LAKE CHELAN ) – Soar high above crystal clear waters and admire mesmerizing scenery while basking in the summer sun.  Parasailing in Washington's Playground offers amazing views of Lake Chelan, the North Cascade Mountains, and the surrounding ridges and high desert plateaus.  With an average of over 300 days of sunshine a year, this unique activity will both excite and amaze on those hot summer days.

River Tubing

River Tubing ( LEAVENWORTH, CASHMERE ) – Floating down river on the banks of the Bavarian-themed town of Leavenworth and Cashmere is one of the most popular things to do on those long hot summer days.  Beat the heat, and enjoy crystal-clear waters and breathtaking views.  There are multiple outfitters that offer equipment rental and shuttle services to make your tube trip a breeze.

Road Biking

Maybe it’s due to the amazing scenery or the love and appreciation of exercise and the outdoors.  Whatever the reasons, people love to pedal here!  With numerous bike races and gatherings in the area, sign up to compete with other cyclists, or enjoy a relaxing ride through orchards and vineyards.  Come and tour our beautiful landscapes!

Rock Climbing

Rock Climbing ( LEAVENWORTH, CASHMERE ) – It’s no wonder Rock and Ice Magazine chose Leavenworth, WA as one of the Top 10 Climbing Cities in the US. Boasting over 50 crags within 10 miles of town, Leavenworth is a climber’s paradise. Climbers from around the country flock to this area to check routes such as Outer Space (5.9) and Iconoclast (5.10c) on the Snow Creek Wall off their bucket lists. Other routes on the nearby walls of Castle Rock, Careno Crag, and Givler’s Dome offer a variety exciting climbs with amazing views of the North Central Cascade Mountains and roaring rivers that cut through the valleys below. World class bouldering populates the Icicle River Valley, attracting strong boulderers from around the state and far beyond. Just off Highway 2 near Cashmere, WA the Peshastin Pinnacles jut out from the surrounding landscape offering a 34-acre state park filled with sandstone slabs that offer amazing routes for climbers of all ability levels.

Skateboarding ( LEAVENWORTH, LAKE CHELAN, WENATCHEE ) – Shred a concrete bowl at Leavenworth’s Cascade High School skate park complete with rails, boxes, and even a cradle!  Or, visit Revolution Snow & Skate Shop in downtown Wenatchee and check out their indoor park. Lake Chelan has a great outdoor skate park right near downtown. There are several skate parks in the area that offer fun and challenges for every ability level.


Snowshoeing ( LEAVENWORTH, LAKE CHELAN, WENATCHEE, CASHMERE ) – Snowshoeing in in Washington's Playground offers a diverse range of terrain and environments.  Trek through Alpine Wilderness and meadows or through vast open plains with amazing views of the landscape.  There are hundreds of miles of trails to choose from and a variety of outfitters where you can rent equipment, join guided tours, and acquire trail maps.
