Growing the Valley: Yaksum Canyon Truck Farm in Cashmere
Farming in Cashmere is more than a business for Susan Gaspar. It is family, legacy, and love for the land.
Susan grew up just down the road from what is now Yaksum Canyon Truck Farm in Cashmere, Washington. Her grandfather’s family settled here in the early 1900s, planting fruit trees that are still producing today. The orchard has grown over generations and remains family owned.
The farm is primarily pears, with apples scattered throughout and a cherry orchard Susan and her husband added. Apricots and peaches round out the fruit, but pears remain the backbone of the operation.

While her brother manages the orchards, Susan focuses on her large vegetable garden. She grows pumpkins in every color and shape, rows of cherry tomatoes, pickling cucumbers, green beans, and more. Many of these vegetables head straight to the Wenatchee and Cashmere farmers markets.
Small farming is not easy. Equipment, land, and labor all come at a cost. Farmers markets help sustain growers by giving them a direct place to sell their product and connect with the community.

Chelan County is still an agricultural valley at heart. Its orchards shape both the economy and the landscape. Visiting a local farmers market is one of the best ways to experience that heritage. You meet the people who grow the food, learn what is in season, and support the land that makes this place special.
If you want to meet Susan and taste what she grows, look for Yaksum Canyon Truck Farm at the Wenatchee and Cashmere farmers markets.
